Children learning English with us, from the very first class, see that they are experiencing something different. At first, they cannot name it, define it, it is a bit of a "Je ne sais quoi". Everyone reacts differently - there is uncertainty, will it always be like this, will classes be conducted like this?
“Yes” means how?
Will we always sit on the carpet, will we always sit at tables in a circle so that we can see each other's goods (and not backs), will we sing songs, will we move and repeat sentences, will we manipulate picture cards, will we play while learning and learn while playing?
So many thoughts appear in the heads of children who begin their adventure with our classes.
And the answer to all these questions is affirmative.
Yes, we will speak in complete sentences.
Yes, we will be learning with turn mapping using motion.
Yes, we will say rhymes and sing songs.
Yes, we will look at each other while learning.
This is how we will build rapport through eye contact.
And today I will discuss this one more “yes” in more detail, namely:
Yes, we will be doing projects at the end of the section.
And here a question may arise - and I must admit that I hope it will appear in your minds - but why should children and young people do projects?
Projects are the strategy for so many needs in Home of Bears. See for yourself:
1. the need for creativity – children create a summary of the section themselves – they only receive specific guidelines regarding what should be included in their work – e.g. at least 3 pets, the rest they create themselves;
2. need for autonomy – I decide myself what I will do, how I will draw it, where I will put it, what I will say;
3. need for attention – each person has time to talk about their project, show specific elements on it, name them and discuss them;
4. need for recognition – each person receives feedback from the mentor conducting the classes and from their peers in the group;
5. the need for competence – children experience how much they can already do, how much they have learned during a month of working with a given topic, how freely they use sentences, structures and expressions.
Projects are a great way to sum up the work that has been done in class. Children and young people take their projects home and we often receive information from parents when children come home (especially the younger ones - from our Pandas and Grizzly Cubs groups) and tell us what they have on their projects, sing songs that they have learned during a given topic - can you see that? They are happy that they have learned, that they can do it, they want to include their loved ones in this celebration - saying sentences together, naming elements, showing themselves with enthusiasm and a desire to look at themselves in the admiring eyes of adults.
Yes! It is such a powerful energy – a delight that inspires our children.
Our English classes are a time when children experience delight and enthusiasm – simply put.
Our classes are a return to the natural perception of learning – completely integrated with fun. Learning that is not something that has to be done, that is difficult and tedious. Learning that brings skills, competences, further skills – and thanks to this brings joy and is a goal in itself.
If you are looking for an English language school that does not teach for tests and exams, but teaches the language (and children and young people pass all exams at a high level), we invite you to visit us.
With us, your child will discover that English can be liked, that English can be enjoyable, that English is more than just exercises and vocabulary tests.
Remember that there are many paths to get from point “A” to point “B.” Ours leads through the paths of enthusiasm, joy, companionship in frustration and anger, mourning and celebrating together, setting new goals and achieving them – all in a harmonious and holistic way.
And yes, our children pass the tests and exams that the education system puts in their path (even international tests and exams) but they definitely do not study to pass. They study to know.
And this is the educational path to which we invite you.
